Pre-Production: A Director's Perspective
A Factual Film by Mark Duggan: This 15-minute, behind the scenes, documentary highlights an independent filmmaker's (Erik Knudsen) approach to the planning and preparation of the feature film, 'Cleft Lip' (2017). The documentary blends footage shot on the iPhone 5s, iPhone 7, iPad Mini, GoPro Hero4, Canon 5D MK II & Leica SL. Audio recorded with an iPad using the RØDE app. One Day Films: "This is an intimate reflection on the challenges and opportunities by a director committed to independent, micro budget filmmaking." 'Cleft Lip' is currently in post-production. "What happens when fertility becomes a commodity in a fractured society? Oedipus reborn. Sophocles’ classic of classics adapted for the 21st Century by Erik Knudsen into a contemporary tragedy about the unravelling of the most fundamental of relationships in society; that between a father, a mother and a child. Cleft Lip is set in the context of a world where donor eggs and sperm are freely traded as increasing numbers of people are having to resort to fertility treatment as a consequence of social changes, individual decisions and biological imperatives."
Raven Vlog 4
On the 15 and 16 December 2012, One Day Films held auditions at the Rheged Centre in Penrith for the leading actors in our forthcoming film, The Raven On The Jetty. There was a fantastic turnout and we saw many boys with a parent. We are quite keen to cast a 8 to 10 year old boy with one of his parents, so the auditions also included the search for either a father or a mother for the film. This Vlog, put together by Mark Duggan, looks at part of the process of auditioning and selecting our main actors and includes an explanation by the Director, Erik Knudsen, of his approach to casting for film.
Raven Vlog 5
Amanda Belantara and Michael Cacioppo Belantara join The Raven On The Jetty production team as sound recordist and post-production sound designer. Amanda and Michael are sound artists based in New York City and here they talk about their work with their sound collective Kinokophone and their involvement with the forthcoming Erik Knudsen film, The Raven On The Jetty.
Raven Vlog 6
Erik Knudsen and Mark Duggan brave the cold weather to go and do some simple camera tests in preparation for shooting The Raven On The Jetty. In particular they look at focus pulling and test the focus pulling setup. They also discuss choices of camera lenses for the film and their preferred choice of camera, the Canon 5D Mark iii.
